Backlog Attack! June 2016

Backlog Attack!

It’s back! Every summer, when the days between new game releases grow longer and longer, we take advantage of all extra time by digging into our backlogs for older games we’ve never gotten around to playing. This year, we’re committing to finishing two old games for each month this summer, and we’re inviting you to play along, too! For the first round, all you have to do is post your own list of unfinished games you want to get through by the end of June. You can put any games you want on the list, but choose wisely: We’ll pick a winner based on who we think has achieved the greatest feat of backloggery. For instance, we’ll be more impressed if you max out every character in Final Fantasy XIII (disclaimer: please don’t play Final Fantasy XIII) than if you watch the end credits roll in the latest incarnation of Tetris.

Once you’ve posted your list, all you need to do is start playing those games! But don’t forget to listen to new episodes of the podcast each week and follow @vghangover on Twitter in case we drop in some bonus backlog challenges.

In the first week of September, we’ll select three monthly winners to receive prizes, and we’ll pick one overall Backlog Champion who will receive the new Fall release game of their choice!*

If you have any questions, feel free to drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or email and we’ll be happy to explain any of the rules. We think it’s simple enough, though: play your old games, win a new one! Now get to it and post your list below!

* MSRP $60 (U.S.) or under. If the game you choose isn’t eligible for release date delivery, we’ll send it via the next fastest shipping method.

For June, I’ll be playing 2 games:

    1) Last Window: The Secret of Cape West — the sequel to Hotel Dusk, an adventure/mystery game for DS. I loved Hotel Dusk and this has been on my list to play for years, so it’s great to finally get into it.

    2) Deus Ex: Invisible War — Another sequel to one of my favorite games that I’ve somehow avoided playing. It’s not supposed to live up to the original (admittedly a tough act to follow), but people say it’s a decent game in its own way. I’ll be streaming my playthrough of this starting Saturday, June 11 at 1PM Pacific time. Watch it at http://twitch.tv/vghangover !

Wrapped up Deus Ex this weekend! It was ~just OK~. Looking forward to diverting more attention to Last Window, which is still very much Hotel Dusk Episode 2 but it’s cool to see the story continue.

Nice, I’ll be starting my backlog with some REVENGEANCE of the Metal Gear kind, and following it up with more MURDERING in Undertale.

I may also attempt to stream more often since D.J. has inspired me.

Yeah that 99 Gamers fiasco sounds awful. Sorry to hear you got caught up in it.

Never heard of Project Spark, what’s it like?

I’m really bad with backlogged games. I’d really like to get back to Captain Toad.

I don’t think I’ll be as organized as years past (rough busy year) but I’ll give the old college try in June with:
    1) PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (was curious and was free through PS plus a while back)
    2) Metal Gear Sold V: Ground Zeroes (short, but satisfying from what I understand; also a PS+ title
    3) P.T. which is not normally my kind of experience, but its on my PS4 and if I remove it I can never get it back…
    4) …
    5) profit?

Good luck with the backlogs all!

As an All-stars update: I’ve played periodically over the last two days on my vita…. not good 🙁 I’m sure I suck and don’t appreciate the nuances, but its locked up more than once causing me to restart the whole arcade mode play through, and isn’t going to evolve significantly past a button masher for me since I want to play as lots of different characters and each character is dramatically different. I’ll probably play through a couple of more characters I personally like and then call that a completed PS+ experience. 🙂

Oof, probably a good idea to put it aside if it keeps locking up like that…

Yeah, I’m kind of through and will probably pick off some easy trophies to make it more “complete” 🙂

I finally got a chance to start uncharted 4 this weekend which I’ve technically had since 5/21 so that counts too, right? 😉

I had forgotten the joy of hunting for treasure and mowing down hundreds of guys in the process 😀

Update: I blew some of the dust off my backlog website http://dontjudgemyadd.no-ip.org/backlog
and I’ve put a pin in PlayStation All stars, finished uncharted 4 (full 15-16 hours of gameplay up on youtube and linked on my backlog site).

I also started a second vita game (Stealth Inc 2) and plan to pick up either Metal Gear or P.T after getting a night or two of sleep.

      Final June Standing:
      1) PS all stars – done!
      2) P.T. – done!
      3) (subbed) Uncharted 4 ( 😉 ) – done!
      4) Stealth Inc 2 – still playing
      5) (subbed) Dying Light – still playing

I’ve streamed all PS4 content and its linked to on my blog. Not that its worth watching but fun to document my gaming since its so easy now.

That’s an ambitious list for June! How long is the Fallout DLC? I know Witcher’s DLC was about 25hrs for me.

      • Erik K.
        Erik K. June 14, 2016

Fallout’s DLC is around 10-20 hours for Far Harbor. Yea Blood and Wine is looking to be around 20 hrs and Doom should take me 4-5. I think I’ll be able to get all 3 done.
