There’s still some life left in those old consoles! We’re looking into the back half of 2013 for the current-gen games we most want to play this year (besides Grand Theft Auto V, of course), including Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Pikmin 3, Pokemon X and Y, and (finally) the new Phoenix Wright game.
In the Hangover this week, we’ve got our spoiler-free review of the new Walking Dead episode, 400 Days, and impressions of the Final Fantasy XIV beta.
As always, we’ve got your postcards and letters in Viewer Mail and we wrap things up with our weekly non-sequiturs in Last Call.

Show topic: To collect or not to collect? Do you buy the collector’s editions of games? Why? What will you do when you run out of space?
Keep up the good work!
Ah, that’s a good one, too. Super relevant right now given all of the collector’s editions available for the releases this year.
Show Topic: How did the XBone become sold out at Best buy?
INDEED RANDY!!!! August is gonna be cluster F*&K. I have: Tales of Xillia, Dragon’s Crown(Both giving me my J-rpg fix) Splinter Cell Black List, Killer is dead AND ending it with “the game that should not be named” Paul! Have you heard of the first 2 i mentioned?
Ha! Glad I’m not alone in my late-August angst. It’s going to be quite the spending spree. Killer is Dead and Splinter Cell are must-plays for me. I’ll probably bump Saints Row and XCOM/Bureau to later in the year.
I haven’t heard of Dragon’s Crown but I almost pre-ordered Tales of Xillia before deciding otherwise. It would be un-wise for me to add a lengthy jrpg to my backlog right now lol.
Paul i am surprised that i havent heard anything about Persona 4 Golden since you like jrpgs, also play Persona 3 on the PS3
I’ve never actually played any of the Persona games, I’ve heard good things about them though. This year I’ve spent a lot of time re-discovering my love of jrpgs so I may have to go back and check out at least one Persona title before the year is over!
Show Topic:Games that are lost in translation, games that failed to make it to the states that are good
These are great topic suggestions! We’ll definitely explore some of them on the show soon. For a little 3DS vs. Vita discussion, try our Vita year one retrospective in episode 88.
Nice! Thanks for the suggestions, Cobalt. We’ll definitely add these to our show ideas list.
Show Topic: Games that dont live up to the hype
Show Topic: 3DS vs Ps vita
Which console should i get a 3ds or a ps vita
P.s im big jrpg fan
At this point, 3DS probably edges out Vita for JRPGs thanks to strong titles like Fire Emblem, Etrian Odyssey, and a handful of Shin Megami Tensei games, plus Pokemon and Bravely Default are on the way. And that’s just naming some! Check out this week’s show to hear Paul rave about Project X Zone, too.
The biggest JRPG the Vita has going for it is Persona 4, although that’s no slouch.
