We took a break from playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf long enough to record a show! We spend this week trying to pin down what makes Nintendo’s offbeat life simulator so popular, sharing stories from our Animal Crossing history, and discussing where the series could go in the future.
Also, we have your post-E3 reactions to Xbox One vs. PlayStation 4!

New Leaf needs voice chat. Speaking of that, City Folk’s big selling point was that it allowed for voice chat…. ….. ….. voice chat that nobody used because the peripheral was overpriced. 🙂
I imagine some modder somewhere is working frantically to attach his Wii Speak mic to his 3DS!
Jenni here, and i love, love, LOVE Animal Crossing! It’s something I can both relax to and obsess over at the same time. One of the things I admire the most is the attention to detail. For example, I didn’t realize at first that I could actually view my museum collections or that my villagers would be wandering around the museum. If I have a bee sting, everyone comments on it and gives me medicine to cure it! I’m even trying to feng shui my house! The list goes on and on and on, and I’m loving it. It’s like you guys said in the show though: I almost wish there wasn’t as many online resources for the obsessive gamer in me to look up every time I come across something new. I’m trying not too look too much so I can just enjoy the surprises! The online interaction is a ton of fun. In fact, it’s almost time to go enjoy the opening of Courtney’s Club LOL in Magnolia 🙂
Hey, Jenni! We’re happy to hear from you again. We loves us some Animal Crossing, too. Perhaps you’d noticed? 🙂
There are so many fun little details that emerge as you dig into the game. I just learned about good luck/bad luck. I couldn’t figure out why my little character kept falling down and it turns out I was experiencing a little bad luck that day! I had to take Katrina’s advice and wear basketball shorts (?) to ward it off.
I love the biographies of all of the museum pieces, too. It’s fun AND educational!
Paul and I went for a walk at a nature reserve recently, and we saw a real life Tiger butterfly that flew by right in front of us. We both yelled out “Tiger butterfly!” at the same time. So yes we have learned how to identify specimens.
