Weekend Hangover: something something 2012 edition

2012

We’re back! 2012 is in full swing, what with our new episode this week and everything. In it, we run down our top 5 favorite games of last year, but we’re also posting our full top ten (or more!) to the site over the next few days. Randy kicked it off today with his top fourteen. Keep an eye on the blog Monday through Wednesday for everyone else’s lists. The only thing we’re missing to really complete this 2012 motif is John Cusack driving a limo away from a wave of destruction.

What’s everybody planning to play during 2012’s first full weekend?

Randy Dickinson (@randy_wrecked): I’m away from home this weekend but I’m hoping to work through some of the stuff in my portable backlog: Half-Minute Hero for the PSP and WayForward’s Thor game for the DS.

D.J. Ross (@metaly): I offset the cost of the new Rock Band 3 keyboard I recently picked up for cheap with a ton of DLC from Queen and SoulEye (who we featured on the show last season!). It’s hilarious to see the VVVVVV cast in the music library while my virtual band on stage plays chiptunes, but playing the actual songs is brutal! It’s gonna take some practice.

I’ve also been recovering from a cold (hope nobody noticed in episode 35) and find Minecraft somewhat therapeutic. Plus I just installed this water shader (my first mod!) and the results are stunning, especially juxtaposed with Minecraft characteristic chunky blocks. Here’s some water looking fabulous even in this totally mundane scene:

Paul Sandhu (@spaulsandhu): I’m not really sure what I’ll be playing this weekend. My wife is busy working all weekend so Trine 2 is out (boo!). Maybe Matt will be up for some PAYDAY: The Heist? Are ya Matt????? (Ed. Note: Maybe. My Internet is out right now and I might wind up being kinda busy once it’s fixed. We’ll see….)

Matt Kernan (@mkernan): I finally capped off Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, so my choices are pretty wide open now. I could start up Shadows of the Damned or get back to Saints Row: The Third and actually try to finish it. …or maybe Skyward Sword. Most likely, I’ll just end up staring blankly at my collection and being indecisive. Oh wait, I just remember my Rock Band keyboard came in! If you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll go play ‘We Built This City’….
