Dress-up time – Saints Row: The Third’s Initiation Station now available

I had a blast playing dress-up last night. No, not with my actual dolls – those are in storage. I was mucking around with the newly-released Initiation Station for Saints Row: The Third. After fiddling around for about 10 or 15 minutes, I ended up with the depraved individual you see before you, whom I’ve oh-so-creatively named “Matilda.” The standalone application/demo lets you pick from a fairly impressive list of features, hairstyles, clothing, accessories, taunts, tattoos, and even underwear. With all these choices at hand, you’ll be able to create everything from a well-dressed, well-groomed, attractive dude to an intensely disturbing, half-naked, red-headed pervert.

Though this demo doesn’t provide anything at all in terms of actual gameplay, I still think its a pretty neat idea to put the character creation tool out in advance of the game’s release. This gives players the opportunity to really spend time designing their avatars now, but also lets them just get straight into the action as soon as the game hits stores on November 15th. Initiation Station will upload your creations onto the recently redesigned Saints Row community site, where you and other players can browse through each other’s characters in the gallery; it even features a Facebook-style “like” button for highlighting the ones that you, um…, like.

At the moment, access has only been given to those who’ve pre-ordered Volition’s previous game, Red Faction: Armageddon, but GameSpot was giving out codes the last time we checked. If you don’t manage to get a code, don’t worry – the Initiation Station will be made available to the general public on November 1st.

I do like the idea of getting the customization done way before you get the game. Maybe this time, I can actually get my amazing looks to translate correctly on my avatar.

Not my intention, but now I can see the resemblance. Sort of….

But yeah, this is how I’ve always wanted to look.

Thumbs up to an early release of the character creator (how do I get a copy?).

Thumbs down to that creation in the post above. Kill it. Kill it with fire.
